Tracing its origin to 1779, Warrenton was an early and progressive center of education for both men and women and reputedly the wealthiest town in the state during the 1850s. Warrenton is the home of well-known builder Jacob Holt, who built Greek revival and Italianate style houses throughout the town and region.
