Town of Warrenton – Permanent Full-Time Position

 

Position Title:  Lab Technician /Administrative Assistant / Horticultural and Landscape Technician

Department:  Public Works

Minimum Requirements:  Valid NC Driver’s License with a good driving record.  Graduation from a two-year business school with course work in office technology along with considerable office management experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Additionally, completion of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  One year of horticultural or related experience.  Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly.  Work requires reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions.  Ability to work in outdoor environments which include extreme hot and cold conditions.  Ability to meet all safety program requirements. 

 

Position Primary Duties:  Performs chemical, physical, and biological analysis of wastewater, industrial wastes, and by-products of water and wastewater treatment processes.   Provides administrative duties for the Public Works department which include but are not limited to compliance reports, payroll, accounts payables, filing, and inventory control.  Performs other tasks, such as setting up and closing out of utility accounts; collecting and documenting utility payments and processing/documenting the Town taxes submitted by Warren County; handling customer inquiries and complaints relating to utility bills and Town services and attempting to resolve problems; working with customers on account issues; processing connection and disconnection requests; balancing cash drawer; establishing bank drafts; preparing various reports; and a variety of related issues.  Employees generally cover the front desk or answer the phone.  Work involves accuracy and heavy public contact functions, including dealing with customers and coordination with other departments within the Town’s organizational structure, especially the water and sewer and garbage collection.  Considerable tact and courtesy are required in these public contact functions, especially in dealing with customers.  Additional duties include assisting with the operation of the Town’s horticultural nursery used for facilities and street beautification.  Duties include but are not limited to purchasing plants and landscape materials, transplanting plants, watering, and weeding potted plants and shrubbery/flower beds.

 

Position Secondary Duties:  Assists with maintenance of facilities finished landscape areas when needed.

Position Title:  Public Works Maintenance Worker

Department:  Public Works

Minimum Requirements:  High school diploma or GED.  Valid NC Drivers License with a good driving record.  Ability to perform manual labor.  Ability to use hand/power tools.  Familiar with the operation of lawnmower, power edger, commercial leaf vacuum/blower, commercial street sweeper, chainsaw, pole saw, string trimmer, tractor, and bushhog.  Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 50 lbs. frequently, and occasionally 75 lbs.  Ability to work in outdoor environments which include extreme hot and cold conditions.  Ability to work in extreme wet, muddy, and dusty environments.  Ability to meet all safety program requirements. 

 

Position Primary Duties:  Performs skilled and unskilled manual labor in the repair, maintenance, and cleaning up of Town streets, sidewalks, facilities, cemetery, and park.  This includes tree pruning or removal, picking up debris from street curbside, mowing and trimming grass in Town maintained areas, sidewalk maintenance, watering, shrubbery bed maintenance, sign repair, dog waste station maintenance, loose leaves removal from curbside, and curb and gutter maintenance.  Assists with Wastewater Treatment Plant machinery and grounds maintenance.  Assists with sewer lift station maintenance.  Assists with water and sewer line installation, repair, and maintenance.  Assists with maintenance of water and sewer main right of ways. Will perform other work as directed by Public Works Director.

 

Position Secondary Duties:  Assists with household garbage pickup when needed.
